Concert founder keeps hitting the right notes in Brighton (with video)
Rod Stewart was crooning “Tonight’s the Night” and Jimmy Carter was president of the United States when Dennis Dimoff launched a free concert series at the Brighton Mill Pond Gazebo.
The then-recent college graduate had studied downtown Brighton as part of his college thesis and joined the Brighton Kiwanis service club. He also helped design the original gazebo.
“Let’s start a concert series there,” he said.
Now 37 years later, the Green Oak Township man said he never imagined he would still be organizing the Kiwanis Gazebo Concerts.
The concerts typically draw 2,000 spectators downtown and have become a Sunday evening tradition for many families.
